The Spaces Between

(generations of women)

ISTD

This is a deeply personal project—one that holds the heart of my identity and honors the women who raised me. It is a tribute to the strength, love, and sacrifices that define the word family a word I see as solid, beautiful, and filled with meaning. Through this work, I expressed the generational shifts between my grandmother’s, my mother’s, and my own experiences, preserving the stories they shared with me for future generations. It was not only a design challenge but an emotional journey—one rooted in gratitude and shaped by the voices that continue to guide me.

This project is a deeply personal visual archive capturing the lives of three generations of women—my grandmother, my mother, and myself.
Designed as an archive box, it blends color, typography, and voice to tell our stories side by side.

My role as a designer was to create a clear contrast between my written reflections and their spoken words, emphasizing the authenticity and emotional weight of their voices.

Each narrative is color-coded to reflect its character and stage of life: red for my grandmother’s strength and femininity, blue for my mother’s intelligence and resilience, and green for my own emerging journey.

To preserve the feeling of a real archive, I used bulldog clips and included a visible timeline on the back of each page to guide the reader through the sequence. Photographs are included between pages to deepen context, while italicized title statements highlight the essence of key phrases. This project is both a design exploration and a tribute—storytelling piece grounded in heritage, memory, and identity.
